Captain Salim Torabally, MAeSM, EVP Flight Operations, Air Mauritius, gave a presentation to the Society on 24 October 2017. He was accompanied by Captain Olivier Loustau Lalanne, MK’s A350 Fleet Manager and Captain Patrick Ter Hofsteede, MK’s A350 Training Captain.

About Captain Salim Torabally
Captain Oumed Torabally also known as Salim was born in 1960 in Port-Louis. After completion of his primary education at Villiers Rene Government School, he obtained a French scholarship and started his secondary studies at Lycee Labourdonnais in Curepipe. In 1979, after obtaining his French Baccalaureate, he set course to Ile de la Reunion to pursue his tertiary education in Sciences.
Whilst in La Reunion he was encouraged by his father to apply for ‘ab-initio’ pilots, which Air Mauritius was looking for.
He was selected by Air Mauritius in 1980 and was sent to flying schools in France under the sponsorship of the company. Subsequently he flew on various types of aircraft with the national airline namely the Twin Otter, ATR, Boeing 767, Airbus 319, Airbus 330, Airbus 340 and since recently Airbus 350. After starting as First Officer, he became Captain, instructor and examiner, Chief Pilot on various fleets, Head of Special Projects, Head of Administration before being appointed as Executive Vice President – Flight Operations in December 2016. He is an experienced professional airline pilot, with more than 20 000 flying hours. Captain Torabally also holds an MBA with distinction, and a Diploma in Legal Studies in Business Law Stream from the University of Mauritius. He also holds a Safety Oversight Flight Operations Inspector’s Certificate from the Singapore Aviation Academy, and is a former part-time lecturer at the University of Mauritius in Management fields.
