The final Members Meeting of the year was also the occasion for the Annual Dinner which took place at the Gold Grest Hotel in Quatre Bornes on Friday 24th November. Her Excellency Dr. Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, GCSK, CSK, PhD, DSc, President of the Republic of Mauritius, graced the event with her presence and made an great contribution to the success of the event, speaking about the rapid development of scientific knowledge in the modern world. Her speech was the high-spot of the evening.
The British High Commissioner Keith Allan and Mrs Marja Allan also honoured us by joining the 40+ members and friends of the Aeronautical Society of Mauritius who were present. We also welcomed President of the Institution of Engineers Raj Prayag, Groupe Captain Shinde from the Police Helicopter Unit, and Melissa Gibson from the University of Southampton. Professor Serge Riviere took on the task of Master of Ceremonies, carrying it off with his usual light and friendly touch.

President of AeSM, Captain Dick Twomey, reviewed the busy and productive year that was 2017, and revealed that the society’s membership roll had more than doubled during the course of the 12 past months. His review can be read here:
Her Excellency Dr. Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, GCSK, CSK, PhD, DSc, President of the Republic of Mauritius, was conferred with “Honorary Fellowship of the AeSM” by Capt Twomey in recognition of the active role of Mauritius’s scientist-president. AeSM Vice President, Jagadish Soobarah, C.Eng, FRAeS, FIEM, FAeSM, gave the Vote of Thanks, referring to the valuable support that Her Excellency Dr. Ameenah Gurib-Fakim has given to both the Aeronautical Society and also to its close partner organization the Institution of Engineers Mauritius (IEM).
MC Serge Riviere concluded the evening after a highly enjoyable raffle organized by Jag Soobarah, wishing all participants “Bonne route and Merry Christmas!” and “See you all next year!”
